When an agricultural property changes owner, e.g. in the case of sale or in the event of death, the allodial act gives relatives a preferential right to acquire the property in a specific order. Allodial law has strong traditions in Norway.
 
The provisions of the allodial act may appear complicated. It will often be beneficial to clarify the legal issues before a property is sold or transferred.
